Google

Google’s new privacy policy will allow Google to get rid of 60 different user policies and combine it into one, much shorter, policy. It will also grant Google the ability to collect more complete profiles of the people using their products. By gaining this information about a user they can put ads on the side of the webpage that a user is most likely to buy.
This article talks about Google changing and being able to keep track of what you’ve searched, if you’re going to be slate for a meeting, and will know "what you really mean when you type in Apple, Jaguar or Pink." It also talks about how privacy experts are not very happy about it. I think the way that Google plans on using this policy is for the better because it helps you search things fast, and is more convenient. Link to article

Copyright Infringement Case

In 2007, J.K Rowling and Warner Bros sued RDR Books to stop the publication of a Harry Potter encyclopedia that Steven Vander Ark wrote. Rowling said "that the publication of a similar book before her own would hurt the proceeds of the official encyclopedia, which she plans to give to charity." Also that it was "wholesale theft of 17 years of my hard work". It was about a literary work. The case ended in Vander Ark being guilty. $750 for infringement of each of the seven Harry Potter books and the 2 companion books. He only had to pay the least amounts possible though "since the Lexicon has not been published and thus plaintiffs have suffered no harm beyond the fact of the infringement." Link to Article

Internet Safety

Internet safety is being safe and smart while online. Three important rules to online safety are, don't give away personal information such as name, number, address, city, or even state, don't agree to meet someone that you have never met previously, and don't trust everyone you talk to online. Some people lie to gain your trust, and then try to put you in dangerous situations. I didn't really learn anything new yesterday, however,  can improve by not posting as much online, and making my usename random instead of just NolaO, or something similar.

Feed Readers

I used Google reader and Bloglines as my two web feeds. I think Google reader is easier to use. I can see more at once when looking at the websites I subscribed to. If I know what website I want it's much easier to find on Google reader rather than going to the website, copying, and then pasting it on Bloglines. It also looks less cluttered.
